Vinfast VF6 Earns Five-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating Despite Frontal Impact Concerns

The Vinfast VF6 electric midsize SUV has been awarded a five-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP, achieving high marks for both adult and child occupant protection. While the overall result reflects a high standard of safety, specific data from the crash tests indicates vulnerabilities in certain impact scenarios.

VF6 Safety Scores and Occupant Protection

The VF6 underwent rigorous testing to evaluate its structural integrity and safety systems. The vehicle’s performance was quantified through the following scores:

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 27.13 points out of 32.
  • Child Occupant Protection: 44.91 points.

Despite the five-star designation, Bharat NCAP’s technical evaluation noted that protection for the driver’s chest was poor during the frontal collision test. This specific finding suggests that while the vehicle provides excellent safety in many areas, the restraint systems or structural deformation in head-on impacts may not fully mitigate chest injuries for the driver.

Vinfast VF6 Safety Features and Equipment

VinFast’s decision to standardize several high-end safety features across the VF6 lineup is credited for the 5-star result. The India-spec model comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including:

  • Seven Airbags: Standard across all variants, including a driver knee airbag.
  • ADAS Level 2: Features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC): Standard fitment.
  • ISOFIX Mounts: Standard on rear outboard seats for child safety.
  • Heads-Up Display (HUD): Replacing the traditional instrument cluster to help keep the driver’s eyes on the road.

Vinfast VF6 Pricing and Segment Rivalry

The 5-star rating arrives as VinFast begins its formal retail operations in India, with the VF6 priced between ₹16.49 lakh and ₹18.31 lakh (ex-showroom). The certification is expected to bolster consumer confidence in the new brand, specifically as it competes against established rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.

Industry analysts suggest that a high safety rating is no longer an “extra” but a prerequisite for success in the premium EV space. “VinFast’s commitment to safety right from the launch phase indicates a clear strategy to align with the evolving preferences of Indian car buyers,” noted an industry expert.
The BNCAP rating applies to the Earth, Wind, and Wind Infinity variants of the VF6 currently being manufactured and sold in India.
