India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has officially entered the domestic electric two-wheeler market with the launch of the EC-06. Developed with a focus on urban commuting, the new electric scooter offers a certified range of 169 km and represents the brand’s first strategic move into India’s evolving EV ecosystem.
Powertrain and Performance
The Yamaha EC-06 is equipped with an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) that generates a peak power of 6.7 kW and a maximum torque of 26 Nm. This motor is powered by a 4kWh fixed battery pack, enabling the scooter to achieve a top speed of 79 kmph. To manage power delivery, the vehicle features three riding modes:
- Eco: Optimized for maximum battery efficiency.
- Standard: Balanced for daily city riding.
- Power: Configured for enhanced acceleration and performance.
The scooter also includes a dedicated Reverse Mode to assist with parking in confined spaces.
Chassis, Braking, and Durability
The EC-06 utilizes a telescopic front suspension with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring system to manage road imperfections. Stopping power is provided by 200mm disc brakes at both the front and rear, integrated with a Combi Brake System (CBS) for improved stability. For protection against the elements, the motor and battery are IP67 certified, while other electronic systems are rated at IP65 for dust and water resistance.
Technology and Utility
Yamaha has integrated several modern features into the EC-06, including:
- Connectivity: The “Yamaha Motor Connect R” app allows for real-time data monitoring and smart features.
- Display: A color LCD screen provides information on speed, battery levels, and active riding modes.
- Lighting: Full LED treatment for the headlamps and taillights.
- Storage: A 24.5-litre under-seat compartment suitable for helmets and personal items.
Pricing, Charging, and Availability
The Yamaha EC-06 is priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available in a single Bluish White color option. Initial sales will be restricted to select cities through the manufacturer’s premium Blue Square dealership network. The battery carries a warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first. Using a standard home plug-in, the battery requires approximately eight hours for a full charge.
