Mahindra & Mahindra has commenced the rollout of its latest SUV models, the internal combustion engine (ICE) powered XUV 7XO and the battery-electric XEV 9S, following a high-volume opening day. By 2:00 pm on January 14, 2026, the manufacturer secured 93,689 reservations across both models, representing an aggregate order book value exceeding Rs 20,500 crore based on ex-showroom pricing.
Delivery Timelines and Availability
The company has initiated a phased delivery strategy to manage the initial demand. While the XUV 7XO is already being dispatched to customers through dealerships nationwide, the electric XEV 9S is slated to begin reaching owners during the final week of January 2026.
Portfolio Expansion and Powertrain Options
These two models represent a dual-track strategy for the brand, catering to varying consumer preferences in the Indian market. The lineup includes:
- XUV 7XO: Available with both petrol and diesel engine options, continuing the brand’s presence in the traditional ICE segment.
- XEV 9S: A dedicated electric SUV designed to strengthen the manufacturer’s position in the zero-emission vehicle space.
Market Position and Financial Impact
The rapid accumulation of over 93,000 bookings within a four-hour window indicates a strong market reception for the new platforms. This volume translates into a significant financial commitment from consumers, reinforcing the brand’s standing in the competitive SUV landscape. The manufacturer aims to maintain its momentum by offering a diverse range of powertrains under its “authentic SUV” branding strategy.
