Maruti Suzuki Initiates Global Export Program for Victoris SUV

Maruti Suzuki has officially begun shipping its Victoris midsize SUV to international destinations, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy. The initial phase involves the dispatch of over 450 units from the Mundra and Pipavav ports in Gujarat. While known as the Victoris in India, the SUV will be rebranded as the “Suzuki Across” for various emerging markets.

Market Reach and Branding

The first batch of exports is destined for regions including Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Although the “Suzuki Across” name is already in use in the United Kingdom for a Toyota RAV4-based plug-in hybrid, the Victoris-based Across is a distinct model intended for emerging economies. Maruti Suzuki plans to eventually introduce the SUV to over 100 countries, joining other India-made models like the Fronx and e Vitara in the brand’s international portfolio.

Technical Specifications

The export variants maintain mechanical parity with the Indian-spec Victoris. The powertrain options include:

  • 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol: This four-cylinder engine produces 103hp and 139Nm of torque. It is available with either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic.
  • 1.5L Hybrid: Available in select markets, this three-cylinder setup delivers a combined 116hp and utilizes an e-CVT (electronic continuously variable transmission).

Strategic Export Growth

According to Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the company has significantly outpaced industry export trends. While the broader Indian automotive sector saw a 1.43-fold increase in exports between 2020 and 2025, Maruti Suzuki’s shipments grew by 4.67 times during the same period. The addition of the Victoris is expected to further bolster the company’s position as India’s leading vehicle exporter.
