Bajaj Auto has officially expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the Chetak C2501, a new entry-level variant designed for urban commuting. Priced at Rs. 91,399 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the C2501 is the most affordable and lightest model in the Chetak lineup to date, focusing on accessibility and ease of use.
Powertrain and Performance Specifications
In a departure from the mid-drive configuration found in higher-spec Chetak models, the C2501 utilizes a hub-mounted motor. This motor produces a continuous power output of 1.8kW and peaks at 2.2kW, resulting in a regulated top speed of 55 km/hr. The scooter is equipped with a 2.5kWh floor-mounted battery pack, which Bajaj claims offers a range of 113 km on a single charge. Recharging the battery from 0 to 100% is estimated to take 3 hours and 45 minutes using the provided 750W off-board charger.
Revised Chassis and Dimensions
To achieve its lighter kerb weight of 108 kg, Bajaj has updated the scooter’s mechanical hardware. The traditional leading-link front suspension has been replaced by a telescopic fork, while the rear utilizes twin shock absorbers. Braking is managed by a disc at the front and a drum at the rear. The C2501 maintains a rider-friendly seat height of 763 mm and features a more compact body profile while retaining the brand’s signature aesthetic. It is available in six colors: Green, White, Black, Grey, Red, and Yellow.
Onboard Features and Utility
Despite its positioning as an affordable alternative, the C2501 includes several modern features aimed at convenience and safety:
- Reverse LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity for call and music alerts
- Dual riding modes: Eco and Sport
- Integrated reverse assist and hill-hold functionality
- 25-litre underseat storage compartment and a front apron cubby
- USB charging port and a parking brake lock
- Standard warranty covering three years or 50,000 km
Market Competition
The Bajaj Chetak C2501 enters the competitive entry-level electric scooter segment, where it will face direct competition from the TVS iQube 2.2 and the Vida VX2 Go. By pricing the model under the Rs. 1 lakh mark, Bajaj aims to capture a larger share of the budget-conscious EV market in India.
