BYD Seal Recalled in India Over Potential Battery Cell Issues

BYD India has initiated a voluntary recall for its Seal electric sedan in the country to address a potential issue with the high-voltage battery. Reported on January 27, 2026, the recall requests all Seal owners to have their vehicles inspected by authorized service technicians for a possible fault within the Blade battery pack. The manufacturer has not publicly disclosed the exact number of units affected.

Battery Issue Identified

The recall addresses a possible issue pertaining to individual cells within the Seal’s Blade battery pack. This potential fault is identified across all variants and battery sizes of the electric sedan offered in India, which include the 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh options. The affected variants are the Dynamic (Standard Range), Premium (Extended Range), and Performance (AWD). This specific recall does not extend to any other BYD models currently available in the Indian market.

Recall Process for Owners

Owners of the BYD Seal are advised to schedule an appointment at an authorized BYD service center for a diagnostic check. While appointments can be made at the customer’s convenience, the brand recommends booking during standard working days (Monday to Friday). Technicians will perform an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) check. Should the scanner detect an issue with the Blade battery cells, the electric vehicle will receive a complete battery pack replacement at no cost to the owner.

For owners unable to transport their vehicle, BYD India will dispatch authorized personnel to pick up the car and drive it to the designated service center. Service representatives have indicated that, in most instances, customers can expect their vehicle to be delivered back on the same day after the battery replacement procedure is completed.
