Hyundai is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Europe with the introduction of the Ioniq 3, a compact electric hatchback scheduled for a global premiere in April 2026. Speaking to Autocar UK, Hyundai Motor Europe CEO Xavier Martinet confirmed the model will debut at Italy’s Milan Design Week, serving as a critical entry point in the brand’s next-generation EV offensive through 2027.
Production and Manufacturing Strategy
Series production for the Ioniq 3 is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2026 at Hyundai’s manufacturing facility in Izmit, Turkey. The vehicle will be produced on the same assembly line as the internal combustion-engined i20, allowing the manufacturer to adjust output levels based on shifting market demand. This flexibility is central to Hyundai’s goal of establishing a comprehensive EV portfolio, ranging from the entry-level Inster to the flagship Staria.
Platform and Range Specifications
The Ioniq 3 will utilize a 400-volt iteration of the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), a technical architecture shared with the upcoming Kia EV4. While specific battery capacities have not yet been disclosed, the vehicle is targeted to achieve a maximum range of approximately 628 kilometers. Key technical highlights include:
- 400V E-GMP dedicated electric architecture
- Estimated driving range of up to 628km
- Compact crossover-inspired stance
- Developmental ties to the Kia EV4
Design and Interior Features
Dimensionally, the Ioniq 3 will closely mirror the i20 hatchback but with a higher, crossover-esque profile. Design cues observed on camouflaged prototypes during cold-weather testing suggest influences from the Genesis luxury sub-brand and the Concept Three shown at the 2025 Munich Motor Show. Inside, the cabin is expected to feature a suite of modern technologies aimed at the European market, including:
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Wireless smartphone integration and charging
- Automatic climate control
- Comprehensive airbag safety suite
