Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a strategic partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to broaden its after-sales service footprint. Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the country’s largest carmaker will utilize Indian Oil’s vast retail infrastructure to provide vehicle maintenance at convenient locations.
Network Synergy and Accessibility
The collaboration aims to combine Maruti Suzuki’s existing network of 5,780 service centers with Indian Oil’s massive presence of over 41,000 fuel stations. This move is specifically targeted at enhancing accessibility in both urban centers and remote rural regions. Key aspects of the network expansion include:
- Access to IOCL’s touchpoints in high-traffic and remote areas.
- Integration of automotive care with existing energy offerings.
- Utilization of the Maharatna enterprise’s logistical reach.
Service Capabilities at IOCL Outlets
Under this agreement, designated Indian Oil stations will offer a range of automotive services. While the primary focus is on routine maintenance and minor repairs, some locations will be equipped to handle more significant service requirements. However, the company has clarified that the specific level of service will be determined by the individual outlet’s infrastructure and location. These facilities are intended to serve as quick-access points for customers who frequent fuel stations for their regular energy needs.
Management Perspectives
According to Ram Suresh Akella, Executive Officer (Service) at Maruti Suzuki, the goal is to simplify the ownership experience by placing service facilities in locations already visited by customers. Indian Oil’s leadership echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership transforms their fuel stations into multi-service hubs, offering world-class maintenance alongside traditional fuel services.
