Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the global reveal of its updated S-Class luxury sedan for January 29, 2026. The refresh for the brand’s flagship model reportedly incorporates approximately 2,700 new components, aiming to integrate revised powertrains and an array of technological advancements, as indicated by the manufacturer’s CEO, Ola Kallenius.
Exterior Revisions and Lighting Elements
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift introduces subtle yet distinct exterior modifications. Camouflaged test vehicles have provided glimpses of new lighting signatures, including dual three-pointed-star daytime running lights within each headlight cluster and a triple three-pointed-star design for the taillights. The front grille is expected to be larger and feature an LED surround, alongside an illuminated three-pointed-star on the bonnet, though the latter was not observed on early prototypes. While the overall silhouette of the sedan remains largely unchanged, revisions to the front and rear bumpers are anticipated, accompanied by new wheel designs. The rear fascia will also feature redesigned faux exhaust tips, and the vehicle’s exterior dimensions are projected to align with the outgoing model.
Powertrain Updates
Under the bonnet, the 2026 S-Class is expected to offer a selection of updated powertrains. Market-dependent configurations will likely include a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine, incorporating mild-hybrid technology. Additionally, inline-six diesel engine options are anticipated. Power delivery is projected to continue via the existing 9-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.
Interior Enhancements and Technological Suite
As the brand’s premium sedan, the S-Class facelift will feature significant advancements in interior technology and comfort. A key update is the integration of the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). For front occupants, spy photographs suggest a revised triple-screen setup spanning the dashboard, moving away from the previous two-screen configuration. Rear passenger comfort is addressed with multi-way adjustable individual seats offering heating, cooling, and multi-stage massaging functions. Further amenities are likely to include four-zone automatic climate control, a rear-seat entertainment system, powered rear sunshades, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The cabin environment will be further enhanced by a 64-colour ambient lighting system and a fragrance package. Driver assistance features are set to encompass an augmented-reality head-up display, automatic lane-change assist, automatic collision avoidance, and traffic-sign recognition, complemented by a comprehensive airbag system. Customers seeking further personalization will have access to the Mercedes-Benz MANUFAKTUR program.
Market Launch and Competitive Landscape
Mercedes-Benz has not yet disclosed specific launch dates for the 2026 S-Class facelift. However, its introduction in select Western markets is projected for the third quarter of 2026, with an India launch expected between late 2026 and early 2027. Official pricing information remains unconfirmed, but the current S-Class in India starts at Rs 1.78 crore (ex-showroom). The S-Class will continue to compete against segment rivals such as the BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, and Lexus LS.
