Tata Motors has broadened its fleet-specific portfolio with the introduction of petrol and CNG-powered versions of the Xpres sedan. Aimed directly at commercial operators, these new internal combustion engine (ICE) variants complement the existing Xpres-T electric vehicle, providing a wider range of energy options for the taxi and rental sectors.
Powertrain and Mechanical Specifications
The petrol-powered Xpres is equipped with a 1.2-litre engine generating 86 HP and 113 Nm of peak torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The CNG variant utilizes the same engine architecture integrated with a factory-fitted CNG system. While specific output figures for the CNG model were not provided, it features a twin-cylinder tank configuration with a 70-litre water capacity. This design is intended to maximize usable luggage space, an area where traditional single-cylinder CNG vehicles often struggle. The petrol-only version maintains a standard boot capacity of 419 litres.
Interior and Equipment Levels
Reflecting its positioning as a functional fleet tool, the Xpres features a utilitarian equipment list. Key details include:
- A dual-tone cabin theme, contrasting with the all-black interior found in the electric version.
- 14-inch steel wheels fitted with black wheel covers.
- Omission of factory-installed infotainment systems, audio units, and vehicle tracking hardware to allow for aftermarket fleet customization.
- Absence of secondary comfort features such as rear AC vents and Type-C charging ports.
Tata Motors has indicated that fleet-specific technology, such as telematics, can be retrofitted by operators based on their specific logistical requirements.
Market Positioning and Warranty
With this launch, Tata Motors enters more direct competition with established fleet players like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Toyota. The petrol variant is positioned at Rs. 5.59 lakhs, while the CNG model is priced at Rs. 6.59 lakhs (ex-showroom). To support high-mileage commercial use, the manufacturer offers a standard warranty of three years or 1,00,000 km. Operators have the option to extend this coverage to five years or 1,80,000 km. Sales and service support will be facilitated through dedicated dealerships in major urban centers.
