Toyota Kirloskar Motor has expanded the equipment list for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder with the introduction of a new “Tech Package.” Priced at Rs 29,499, this optional accessory suite is designed to bring premium features to all trim levels of the SUV, including those where such equipment was previously unavailable. The move comes as the Hyryder maintains a steady market presence, accounting for approximately 15% of the C-SUV segment with over 7,000 units sold in December.
Tech Package Features and Integration
The Tech Package consolidates three specific features aimed at improving driver visibility and cabin atmosphere. By offering these as an official accessory bundle, Toyota provides an alternative to aftermarket installations. The package includes:
- Dashcam: A safety-focused addition that records driving footage, useful for insurance claims and incident documentation.
- Head-Up Display (HUD): Projects essential telemetry and driving information onto a transparent screen in the driver’s line of sight, a feature formerly reserved for top-spec variants.
- Ambient Lighting: Adds customizable interior illumination to the cabin for a more personalized environment.
Toyota confirmed that this package can be retrofitted to any variant of the Hyryder at authorized dealerships across India, complementing existing individual accessories like wireless chargers and tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
Market Position and Sales Performance
The Hyryder currently occupies the third spot in the 4.2m – 4.4m SUV segment, trailing only the Hyundai Creta and its platform sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The model recently reached a cumulative sales milestone of 200,000 units. With a starting price of Rs 10.94 lakh (ex-showroom), the SUV serves both the domestic Indian market and various export destinations.
Powertrain Options and Specifications
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder continues to offer one of the most diverse powertrain lineups in its class, featuring petrol, strong hybrid, and CNG configurations:
- Strong Hybrid: Utilizes a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor to produce a combined 115.56 PS. This variant is equipped with an e-Drive transmission and delivers a fuel economy of 27.97 km/l.
- Neo Drive (Petrol): Powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine generating 103.06 PS and 136.8 Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Notably, the manual version offers an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration.
- CNG: The bi-fuel variant produces 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and is rated at 26.6 km/kg.
