Vietnamese automaker VinFast has achieved a cumulative sales milestone of 1,000 electric vehicles in India, just four months after its formal market debut in September 2025. This volume positions the company as the fourth-largest contributor to the country’s dedicated EV segment, trailing behind established manufacturers Tata Motors, MG Motor, and Mahindra.
Production and Manufacturing Infrastructure
The brand’s current Indian lineup is assembled at its facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. While the plant currently operates with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, the infrastructure is designed for scalability, with the potential to reach 150,000 units per year based on market demand. This local assembly strategy has been central to the brand’s initial rollout phase.
Product Portfolio and Technical Specifications
VinFast’s initial market traction is driven by two midsize electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7. These models offer varying performance tiers and battery configurations:
- VinFast VF 6: Features a front-mounted motor producing 201 HP and 310 Nm of torque. It utilizes a 59.6kWh battery pack, providing a manufacturer-claimed range of 480 km.
- VinFast VF 7: Available in both single and dual-motor layouts. Battery options include 59.6kWh and 70.8kWh units, with the top-tier variants also claiming a maximum driving range of 480 km.
Sales Trajectory and Market Outlook
The sales data indicates a consistent uptick in consumer interest. Following its launch, VinFast recorded approximately 830 retail registrations during the final quarter of 2025. The momentum has carried into the new year, with over 200 deliveries completed in the first two weeks of January 2026. While the initial figures suggest a positive reception, the brand’s sustained growth will likely depend on the expansion of its charging network and the introduction of additional price-competitive models.
