Volkswagen Commences Local Assembly of Tayron R-Line in India Ahead of 2026 Launch

Volkswagen India has officially initiated the local assembly of its new flagship SUV, the Tayron R-Line, at its manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This 7-seater model is slated for a commercial launch in March 2026, marking the brand’s return to the three-row SUV segment since the discontinuation of the Tiguan All-Space in 2021.

Platform and Design

The Tayron R-Line is the extended-wheelbase sibling of the 5-seater Tiguan R-Line. Utilizing the MQB EVO platform, the SUV features a 2,789mm wheelbase, which is 109mm longer than the standard Tiguan to facilitate the third row. While it shares design language with its smaller counterpart, it incorporates unique lighting signatures to distinguish its flagship status.

Powertrain and Performance

Mechanical duties are handled by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces a peak output of 204hp and 320Nm of torque. The drivetrain configuration includes:

  • 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission
  • All-wheel drive (AWD) system as standard
  • MQB EVO chassis architecture

Interior Technology and Safety

The cabin focuses on premium materials and high-tech interfaces. It features a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital cockpit, and 30-colour ambient lighting. Comfort is enhanced by ventilated front seats and a three-zone climate control system. For safety, the Tayron R-Line is equipped with:

  • Level 2 ADAS suite
  • Seven airbags
  • 360-degree surround-view camera
  • Electronic parking brake and tyre pressure monitoring system

Market Position and Pricing

Expected to be priced in the vicinity of Rs 50 lakh, the Tayron R-Line will enter a competitive segment. Its primary rivals in the Indian market will include the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and the MG Gloster.
