Skoda Auto India has initiated the teaser campaign for the 2026 Kushaq facelift, marking the first major update for the mid-size SUV since its 2021 launch. The refreshed model is slated for an official introduction around January 19, 2026, as the manufacturer seeks to maintain momentum following a record-breaking 2025 where the group achieved 1.17 lakh domestic sales.
Safety and Technology Enhancements
A primary focus of this mid-life update is the integration of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The 2026 Kushaq is expected to feature Level 2 ADAS capabilities, bringing it in line with segment competitors. Key additions are expected to include:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane keep assist
- Autonomous emergency braking
- 360-degree camera system
The cabin is also set for a refresh, with a larger infotainment touchscreen, updated dashboard materials, and ventilated seating expected to be part of the revised equipment list.
Exterior Styling Updates
While the initial teaser shows the vehicle under wraps, previous sightings of test mules suggest a series of cosmetic revisions. The facelift will likely include a redesigned front grille, reprofiled bumpers, and new LED lighting signatures at both the front and rear. New alloy wheel designs are also anticipated to distinguish the updated model from the outgoing version.
Powertrain and Mechanical Specifications
Mechanically, the Kushaq is expected to remain consistent, continuing to offer two turbocharged petrol engines from the TSI family:
- 1.0-litre TSI: Delivering 115 BHP, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic.
- 1.5-litre TSI: Delivering 150 BHP, available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch (DSG) transmission.
While industry speculation has touched upon the potential for an eight-speed automatic gearbox, Skoda has not confirmed any deviations from the current transmission lineup.
Market Positioning and Group Strategy
The Kushaq facelift will be the first of the MQB-A0-IN platform vehicles to receive an update, with the Slavia sedan and Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus expected to follow. This rollout is a critical component of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s strategy to sustain the high volumes generated by its localized product portfolio.
