KTM India has expanded its adventure motorcycle portfolio with the official launch of the global-spec 390 Adventure R. Priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom), this new variant is specifically engineered for improved off-road performance, featuring significant hardware upgrades over the standard model.
Enhanced Off-Road Hardware and Geometry
The primary differentiator for the 390 Adventure R is its revised suspension architecture. KTM has equipped the motorcycle with fully adjustable WP Apex units at both ends. Suspension travel has been increased to 230 mm for both the front USD telescopic forks and the rear monoshock, representing a substantial increase over the 200 mm front and 205 mm rear travel found on the standard variant.
The increased suspension travel has directly impacted the motorcycle’s stance and clearance. The 390 Adventure R features a ground clearance of 272 mm, which is 35 mm higher than the standard version. Consequently, the seat height has risen to 870 mm. The motorcycle maintains a dirt-focused wheel configuration with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke setup.
Powertrain and Performance
While the chassis and dimensions have been overhauled, the powertrain remains consistent with the latest 390 platform. The motorcycle is driven by a 398.63cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine featuring a DOHC four-valve head. Performance metrics include:

- Peak Torque: 39 Nm
- Transmission: 6-speed gearbox
- Clutch: Slipper clutch system
- Driver Aids: Bi-directional quick-shifter
Market Positioning and Pricing
In a strategic move, KTM has priced the 390 Adventure R approximately Rs 19,000 lower than the standard 390 Adventure. This price delta is primarily due to the wheel configuration; the R variant utilizes conventional tube-type wire-spoke wheels, whereas the standard model is equipped with premium cross-spoke wheels designed for tubeless tires. KTM has officially opened bookings for the 390 Adventure R across its national dealership network with a booking amount of Rs 2,000.
