Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Scheduled for India Launch in April 2026

Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the all-electric CLA will be introduced to the domestic market in April 2026. This launch marks the revival of the CLA nameplate in an electrified format, following the phase-out of its internal combustion engine (ICE) predecessor. The new model is positioned to succeed the current A-Class sedan within the brand’s entry-level luxury lineup.

Powertrain and Charging Capabilities

The CLA EV is constructed on an 800-volt architecture, designed to optimize charging efficiency and performance. It utilizes an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack across its international variants. The CLA 250+ utilizes a rear-wheel-drive configuration, delivering 268bhp and 335Nm of peak torque, with a WLTP-certified range of up to 792km. The more powerful CLA 350 4MATIC features a dual-motor system producing 349bhp and 515Nm, maintaining a range of approximately 771km. A significant technical highlight is the 320kW DC fast-charging capability, which facilitates rapid energy replenishment.

Dimensions and Exterior Design

The electric sedan has grown in size compared to the previous ICE-powered CLA, now extending over 4.7 metres in length with a wheelbase of 2,790mm. The exterior design emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency and modern aesthetics through several key features:

  • Signature coupe-like silhouette with frameless doors.
  • Flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamically optimized wheels.
  • Continuous LED lighting elements across the front and rear.
  • A 101-litre front storage compartment (frunk), the first for a Mercedes-Benz model.

Interior Technology and Market Positioning

The cabin is centered around a digital-first philosophy, with the possibility of an optional triple-screen interface. Expected features for the Indian market include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seating. While the exact specifications for India are yet to be finalized, the rear-wheel-drive version is expected to arrive first. The CLA EV will enter the premium electric sedan segment, with pricing and final trim levels to be disclosed closer to the 2026 launch date.
