Tata Motors has reported a landmark performance for January 2026, recording its highest-ever monthly sales volume. The manufacturer dispatched a total of 71,066 passenger vehicles, marking a 47.1% year-on-year growth compared to the 48,316 units sold in January 2025. On a month-on-month basis, the company saw a 40.31% increase over December 2025 volumes.
Passenger Vehicle Performance and Model Milestones

The surge in passenger vehicle (PV) sales was driven by strong demand across the SUV portfolio. The Tata Nexon achieved its highest monthly sales to date, crossing the 23,000-unit mark and reaching a cumulative sales milestone of 10 lakh units. The Tata Punch also recorded its best-ever monthly performance with over 19,000 units sold. Notably, the Punch has surpassed 7 lakh cumulative sales in approximately four years and three months, making it the fastest model in the industry to reach this figure. Additionally, the Tiago hatchback joined the 7-lakh cumulative sales club this month.
- Tata Nexon: Monthly sales exceeded 23,000 units; cumulative sales crossed 10 lakh.
- Tata Punch: Monthly sales exceeded 19,000 units; cumulative sales crossed 7 lakh.
- Tata Tiago: Cumulative sales crossed 7 lakh units.
The company reported sustained interest in newer additions to the lineup, including the Sierra and the petrol-powered variants of the Harrier and Safari. In response to order volumes, Tata Motors has initiated a production ramp-up for the Sierra.
Electric Vehicle and Export Momentum
The electric vehicle (EV) division, operating under Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, recorded total sales of 9,052 units (including exports), representing a 72.7% increase over the 5,240 units sold in January 2025. While domestic EV subsidiary sales were reported at 844 units, the overall EV portfolio saw a volume increase of 3,812 units year-on-year. Export operations, which include markets such as South Africa, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, saw significant growth, particularly within the EV segment.
Commercial Vehicle Segment Results
In the commercial vehicle (CV) sector, Tata Motors reported total sales of 41,549 units, a 29.9% increase over January 2025. Domestic CV sales stood at 38,844 units, reflecting a 29.1% growth. The performance was led by the Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) category, which grew by 41.2%.
- HCV Trucks: 12,691 units (+41.2% YoY).
- ILMCV Trucks: 7,071 units (+33.5% YoY).
- SCV Cargo and Pickups: 14,520 units (+29.5% YoY).
- Passenger Carriers: 4,562 units (-0.4% YoY).
The company attributed the CV segment’s performance to ongoing infrastructure projects and consistent demand in last-mile logistics. CV exports also saw a 42% rise, totaling 2,705 units for the month.
