Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially entered the Indian battery electric vehicle market with the debut of the Urban Cruiser Ebella. Positioned in the competitive midsize SUV segment, the Ebella is the badge-engineered counterpart to the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. This new model will compete against upcoming rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and the Vinfast VF6. With the Ebella’s arrival, Toyota’s Indian portfolio now encompasses petrol, diesel, strong hybrid, and full electric powertrains.
Powertrain, Battery, and Range
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is available with two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery configurations, both paired with a motor generating 189Nm of torque:
- Standard Range: Utilizes a 49kWh battery pack producing 144hp.
- Extended Range: Features a larger 61kWh battery delivering 174hp and an ARAI-certified range of up to 543km on a single charge.
Exterior and Interior Design
While it shares its silhouette with its Maruti sibling, the Ebella adopts Toyota-specific styling, including triangular LED headlights and segmented daytime running lights (DRLs). The front fascia features a smoother bumper with vertical air vents at the edges, while the profile is defined by 18-inch aero-optimised wheels and C-pillar integrated rear door handles. Inside, the cabin is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.1-inch digital driver’s display. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, 12-colour ambient lighting, and a “JBL” premium sound system.
Safety and Ownership Packages
Safety equipment is comprehensive, with seven airbags and four-wheel disc brakes standard across all variants. Higher trims are equipped with a “Level 2” ADAS suite that includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, alongside a 360-degree camera and an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). Toyota is supporting the launch with an 8-year battery warranty and a “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) rental programme, supported by over 500 service touchpoints nationwide.
Pricing and Color Options
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is priced between ₹19.06 lakh and ₹24.42 lakh. Consumers can choose from five monotone shades—Cafe White, Bluish Black, Gaming Grey, Sportin Red, and Enticing Silver—or four dual-tone configurations that pair a black roof with Cafe White, Land Breeze Green, Sportin Red, or Enticing Silver.
