Volkswagen has disclosed further specifications for the India-bound Tayron R-Line, a premium seven-seater SUV expected to launch by March 2025. Positioned above the Tiguan, the Tayron serves as the brand’s new flagship in the Indian market, effectively succeeding the Tiguan Allspace which was discontinued in 2021.
Dimensions and Architecture
The Tayron is built on the MQB EVO platform but features a significantly longer footprint than the standard Tiguan. To accommodate its three-row configuration, the wheelbase has been stretched to 2,789mm—an increase of 109mm over its five-seat counterpart. The India-spec model will arrive in the R-Line trim, which includes 19-inch alloy wheels, more aggressive bumper styling, and illuminated light signatures.
Cabin Technology and Comfort
The interior is defined by a driver-centric layout featuring a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that manages most vehicle functions. Key interior highlights include:
- Ventilated front seats with leather upholstery and massage functions
- A fully digital instrument cluster
- 30-color ambient lighting
- A large panoramic sunroof
In a move tailored for the Indian climate, Volkswagen has equipped the Tayron with seat ventilation, a feature prioritized over the seat heating found in international variants.
Safety and Utility
Safety is a primary focus for the new flagship, which has already secured a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The vehicle also features Matrix LED headlamps as standard. For cargo requirements, the Tayron offers up to 850 liters of storage space when the third row is stowed. Upon its release, the Tayron R-Line will enter a competitive segment that includes the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
