Yamaha India Recalls Over 3 Lakh 125cc Hybrid Scooters Over Braking Concerns

India Yamaha Motor has initiated a large-scale voluntary recall affecting 3,06,635 units of its 125cc hybrid scooter range. The recall specifically addresses a potential technical anomaly within the front brake calliper assembly of the RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid and the Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid models. According to the manufacturer, the component may exhibit sub-optimal performance under certain operational conditions.

Recall Scope and Rectification

The service campaign covers scooters manufactured between May 2, 2024, and September 3, 2025. Yamaha has clarified that while the issue may not be present in every unit produced during this window, the recall is a precautionary measure to ensure rider safety. Owners can verify their vehicle’s eligibility by entering the chassis number on the “Voluntary Recall Campaign” section of Yamaha India’s official website.

Authorized service centers will conduct inspections and, if necessary, replace the faulty brake calliper at no cost to the customer. Due to the high volume of vehicles involved, the company advises owners to schedule appointments in advance.

Powertrain and Hybrid Architecture

Both the RayZR and Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid are built on a shared mechanical platform. Key performance attributes include:

  • Engine: 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder SOHC unit.
  • Output: 8.2 PS of maximum power and 10.3 Nm of peak torque.
  • Transmission: Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
  • Hybrid System: Smart Motor Generator (SMG) providing electric power assist for improved torque during acceleration and inclines.

The SMG system also facilitates a silent start mechanism and assists in charging the onboard battery, enhancing the overall efficiency of the petrol engine.

Chassis and Equipment

The scooters feature a 12-inch front wheel and a 10-inch rear wheel, equipped with 90/90 and 110/90 tubeless tires, respectively. The suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks and a rear unit swingarm. While the recall focuses on the 190 mm front disc brake, the rear relies on a standard drum brake setup. Technology features include the Y-Connect Bluetooth suite and integrated USB charging ports.

Market Pricing

The RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid disc variant is positioned with a starting price of Rs 80,900. The Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid, which features more classic styling, carries a higher starting price of Rs 87,100 (all prices ex-showroom).
