Suzuki has expanded its international lineup with the introduction of the Across, a flagship SUV utilizing electrified powertrain technology. Developed under the brand’s collaborative agreement with Toyota, the Across serves as a high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) positioned at the top of Suzuki’s global portfolio.
Powertrain and Performance
The Across is built upon the TNGA-K architecture and shares its mechanical foundation with the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. Propulsion is handled by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine integrated with two electric motors. This configuration delivers a total system output of 302bhp. Power is distributed to the road through the e-Four all-wheel-drive system, which manages torque between the front and rear axles electronically.
- Total Power Output: 302bhp
- Drivetrain: e-Four All-Wheel Drive
- Electric Range: 75km (WLTP cycle)
- Engine Type: 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol
Design and Interior Appointments
While the SUV maintains the fundamental proportions and silhouette of its Toyota counterpart, Suzuki has applied distinct aesthetic updates. These include a redesigned front fascia featuring a larger hexagonal grille and streamlined LED headlamps. Inside, the cabin focuses on functional technology, anchored by a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment interface and a digital driver display.
Standard interior features include:
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Power-adjustable front seating
- Comprehensive suite of connected car services
- Digital instrument cluster
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety is addressed through an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package. The suite incorporates several active safety technologies designed to assist the driver in various traffic conditions:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
- Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Global Market Strategy
The Across nameplate follows a dual-sourcing strategy depending on the region. The European specification is the Toyota-derived PHEV, whereas other international markets may receive a version based on the Indian-manufactured Victoris. Despite the global rollout, Suzuki has not yet confirmed plans to launch the Across in the Indian domestic market.
